~ Richard F. Gaspar
Now I lay me down to sleep,
swaddled in cotton under the moon;
the woods are lovely, dark and deep,
and my guardians nearby loom.
I pray the lord my soul to keep,
on the darkest evening of the year.
Often I wonder what he hears,
from this wandering lonely sheep.
Thy angels watch me through the night.
Keep me safe in the blue moonlight.
Now I lay me down to sleep,
but I have promises to keep.
