I hear America sing the blues. I see America dream of a time long ago when dew still sat on her, and she still had a soul -a time when men were strong, inspired to be gods and transform the new world into a dream of America. She was young, and life was just life. Only the rivers knew God’s words and how to tell them so that you understood that heaven was there,
here, always within reach. Dream of when we were for a moment free, daring to live, daring to challenge the world. But now she no longer dreams, or do we? I hear America sing the blues. She’s no longer young or are we like her? No longer free to dream, we sing the blues with America. Her polluted rivers no longer hear the whispers of God.
